Season 9, episode 10 marks the final episode of BET’s ‘The Game.’ Although the show is successful, there were some unexpected network and cast changes (and additions) between seasons.

The Game is a comedy-drama created by Mara Brock Akil (if you don’t know who she is, click HERE!), who is also the brains and creator behind the long-running, hit show Girlfriends and current BET show, Being Mary Jane.

The show premiered on October 1, 2006 on the CW network. The origin of the show surrounds a young woman who puts her pending career plans/options on hold to follow the career of her professional football boyfriend.

Sidebar: ‘The Game’ was a spinoff from the hit show, Girlfriends.

Per Wikipedia, here’s a more detailed premise of the show:

“As the series premieres, Melanie Barnett (Tia Mowry) is a first-year medical school student who has given up an offer of admission to Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore to follow her boyfriend Derwin Davis (Pooch Hall), a professional football player, to San Diego, against the advice of her parents. Derwin Davis is a first-year rookie with a fictional team called the “San Diego Sabers”. As Melanie settles into her new life, she meets Tasha Mack (Wendy Raquel Robinson), the mother of Sabers’ starting quarterback Malik Wright (Hosea Chanchez), and Kelly Pitts (Brittany Daniel), the then wife of Sabers’ captain Jason Pitts (Coby Bell). As she learns to balance her new roles as both med student and the partner of a professional football player, Tasha and Kelly immediately warn her to keep a close eye on her boyfriend because of the numerous “gold diggers” who approach the professional football players. Over time the relationships evolves with the players and the significant others, leading to the series to more focus on their relationships and less on the sport.”

Although the show was successful, it was canceled by CW after three seasons and the remaining seasons (4-9) ran on BET.

New faces were introduced to the show during season 5, as Tia Mowry-Hardrict and Pooch Hall left the show for reasons unknown. Their characters were not replaced, however, actors like Brandy Norwood, Lauren London and Jay Ellis were incorporated into the show’s story lines.

Both Pooch Hall and Tia Mowry-Hardrict will make an appearance on tonight’s series finale!

Ok, with all that being said – whose tuning in? I have actually been keeping up the show, I can’t wait to see how they will close this baby out!

Smooches! ♥
