February is one of the most anticipated months of the year! Why? Well, there’s Black History Month, Mardi Gras, the Superbowl and the Grammy’s.
One of the special days some of us choose to celebrate is Cupid’s Day, better known as, Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s is the special, “reserved” day dedicated to pulling out all the bells and whistles to show love and appreciation to the ones you adore most.
Some people only celebrate with their significant other, but I choose to celebrate my whole family! Although I love on my family everyday, I added little sprinkles of love to the mix on Valentine’s.
I got married on Valentine’s which makes the day all the more special. I celebrate my union and love everyday for my husband, but this is the day we got married, so we both try to go above and beyond. (Hey, boo, hey!)
While I am the lovey-dovey type, I am very considerate of my husband’s budget. Yes, I’m worth the silver platter, plus more, but we do have to live after Valentine’s!
Can you guess how much money is spent on Cupid’s Day?
A 2017 article from Fortune states:
A new survey from the National Retail Federation (NRF) projects U.S. consumers will spend a total of $18.2 billion on their valentines this year. Over $4 billion of that will be spent on jewelry alone, with another $2 billion on flowers. Consumers are also expected to spend on cards, clothes, and an overall nice evening out on Feb. 14.
That’s a mind blowing number! $18.2 billion dollars!
As I said, I don’t expect a silver platter on Valentine’s Day, but I do want to be acknowledged!
Fellas, if you are reading this (and I hope that you are), please get your significant other something.
If she says, “babe, you don’t have to get me anything.” It’s lies, all lies! I’m a woman, I know! Ha-ha!
If money is tight, I got you covered. Keep reading this post and I’ll share with how you can make the both of you happy, and your wallet will be saying, “thank you!”
Need a romantic playlist? Check out my iTunes playlist, they have a massive catalog from past to current music. Check out what I put together below.
I’m still adding songs…
Now, on to the juicy stuff! One of my goals every year is to save some coins. Ya’ll know how challenging that can be. However, I still believe there are ways to #xpress your love without spending all of your hard-earned coins. Here are (3) tips and ideas for you (and a bonus one):
Stay Home & Jazz it Up!
Restaurants can be a bit costly and extremely over-crowded on Valentine’s, so why not make a romantic dinner at home? Did you already have this in mind? I figured you did.
Ya’ll know my story, I don’t like cooking, so I might just pick up something and make sure I “dress it up” so it can fit the mood. I have wonderful presentation skills you know! Ha!
Here’s the kicker about this tip – jazz it up a little. Please don’t be the boring and predictable soul. Do something different, like having a picnic – indoors! Grab a blanket, some food, candles, fruit, pillows and play some romantic music (check out my iTunes playlist above) in the background and you’re all set.
Valentine’s Day Giveaway
I love partnering with like-minded small business owners. To celebrate Valentine’s, I teamed up with The Box Office. At The Box Office, you can get theatrical celebrations…in a box!
To kick off the new business, they are giving away a Valentine’s Day-themed box full of dramatics. Enter to win this giveaway and you wouldn’t have to pay a cent to celebrate this year!
Some of the items can be purchased at one of my favorite spots – Dollar Tree. Go ahead and order online, so you can have your needed materials in time to make you and your beau happy on “lovers lane” day!
Give From-the-Heart Gifts
Are diamonds really a girls’ best friend? That’s a rhetorical question, I know. Diamonds are indeed the best gift – if you can afford it. Or, perhaps you saved for it, which is all the more better, but don’t put yourself in debt over material possessions.
Here’s where my frugal & fabulous meter kick in – you can buy beautiful jewelry from Paprazzi Accessories for only $5! Yes, you ready that right my friend, only $5.
I am an Independent Consultant for this company and when I tell you, we have so many customers because of the beauty, quality (and the price) of this jewelry is everything.
Here’s a little breakdown:
– All jewels are only $5 (plus tax) – we thrive on selling beautiful & fashionable pieces.
– All jewelry is lead & nickel free. You will not have a break-out from wearing our pieces.
– We have a Zi Collection that’s bigger, bolder & more blingy jewelry for only $25
– Inventory changes M-F showcasing beautiful and trendy pieces.
Another frugal & fabulous tip:
Ladies, we love a good, relaxing, hot bath, right? If your boo is tight on money, and you come home to some candles, a hot bath, some food, and a little music, wouldn’t that warm your heart? The thought of him assembling all the pieces together to make sure your day is special is…priceless.
As repeated over and over, budgets are crucial! Remember when we learned that, “budgeting is the key to living within your means?” Keep reading…
