February is one of the most anticipated months of the year! Why? Well, there’s Black History Month, the Superbowl and the Grammy’s!
One of the special days some of us choose to celebrate is Cupid’s Day, better known as, Valentine’s Day! Kissey, kissey!
Valentine’s is the special, “reserved” day dedicated to pulling out all the bells and whistles to show love and appreciation to the ones you adore most.
Some people only celebrate with their significant other, but I choose to celebrate my whole family! I got married on Valentine’s which makes the day all the more special. I celebrate my union and love everyday for my husband, but this is the day we got married, so we both try to go above and beyond. Hey, boo, hey!
While I am the lovey-dovey type, I am very considerate of my boo’s budget. Yes, I’m worth the silver platter, plus more, but we do have to live after Valentine’s! Can you guess how much money is spent on Cupid’s Day?
A 2016 article from Time states:
According to the National Retail Federation, only about 55% of Americans celebrate Valentine’s Day, but those who do will shell out an average of $146.84, up a few bucks from last year’s average of $142.31. In total, Valentine’s Day spending is expected to hit $19.7 billion this year.
That’s a mind blowing number! I don’t expect a silver platter on Valentine’s Day, but I do want to be acknowledged! Fellas, if you are reading this (and I hope that you are), please get your boo something. If she says, “babe, you don’t have to get me anything.” It’s lies, all lies! I’m a woman, I know! LOL! If money is tight, I got you covered. Keep reading this post and I’ll share with how you can make the both of you happy, and your wallet will be saying, “thank you!”
Need a romantic playlist? Check out my iTunes playlist, they have a massive catalog from past to current music. Check out what I put together below.
I’m still adding songs…
Now, on to the juicy stuff! One of my goals this year is to save some coins! Ya’ll know how challenging that can be! However, I still believe there are ways to #xpress your love without spending all of your hard-earned coins. Here are 3 tips and ideas for you:
Stay Home & Jazz it Up!
Restaurants can be a bit costly and extremely over-crowded on Valentine’s, so why not make a romantic dinner at home? Did you already have this in your mind? I figured you did. Ya’ll know my story, I don’t like cooking, so I might just pick up something and make sure I “dress it up” so it can fit the mood. I have wonderful presentation skills you know! Ha!
Here’s the kicker about this tip – jazz it up a little. Please don’t be the boring and predictable soul. Do something different, like having a picnic – indoors! Grab a blanket, some food, candles, fruit, pillows and play some romantic music (check out my iTunes playlist above) in the background and you’re all set. And, of course, you can head to my Pinterest board to get full of pinspiration. So many ideas, while saving your coins.
Some of the items can be purchased at one of my favorite spots – Dollar Tree. Go ahead and order online, so you can have your needed materials in time to make you and your boo happy on “lovers lane” day! Kissey, kissey!
Give From-the-Heart Gifts
Are diamonds really a girls’ best friend? That’s a rhetorical question, I know. Diamonds are indeed the best gift – if you can afford it. Or, perhaps you saved for it, which is all the more better, but don’t put yourself in debt over material possessions.
If you cannot afford jewelry for your mate, make something! I know this may seem corny, but it works! Heard the #xpression, “it’s the thought that counts?” It’s true, guys! If you do something that you don’t typically do, this will be a surprising act and your mate will appreciate the thought.
For example, my hubby never washes my car! Not that he does not want to, sometimes he just does not have the time – he’s a busy man! But, if he washes and detail my car (which is not costly), then I will be happy! I’m serious, stop laughing! Ha!
Ladies, we love a good ole hot bath right? If your boo is tight on money, and you come home to some candles, a hot bath, some food, and a little music, wouldn’t that warm your heart? The thought of him assembling all the pieces together to make sure your day is special is…priceless.
As repeated over and over, budgets are crucial! Remember when we learned that, “budgeting is the key to living within your means?” Keep reading…
If you’re looking to buy a present, no problem, but spend wisely. Groupon is a great place to shop! They have so many great deals from major retailers worldwide. Plus, you have the opportunity to enter in your zip code and area and they will list all the places with great deals and you can buy the deal directly from Groupon! I just bought a $10 Starbucks e-card for $5! Yes, come thru, Groupon!
They have deals on restaurants, couple massages and spas, etc., which is perfect for Valentine’s Day!
Alright lovers, That’s all I got for you this time, but I do hope these tips help you as you plan your day. I’m still pondering on what I should do. I celebrate twice on this day – for Valentine’s and my anniversary (I did that on purpose!) Ha!
Got any plans in the works? Do you have any tips to share ? I’d love to hear about them. Share in the comments below.
Smooches to all you lovers out there!
