March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day or shall I say St. Paddy’s Day?!
Pull out all your greenery and get ready to celebrate. Personally, before celebrating any type of special day, I at least like to know the meaning behind the day. So I looked it up in case you wanted to know:
History explains the meaning behind St. Patrick’s Day as:
Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green.
Because I am sure we are all lovers of the color green (hello, money!) I have three fun ways on how you can celebrate this Irish-themed holiday. Before I begin, have you ever wondered why St. Patrick’s Day is represented by the color green? I was curious about that too and found this informational video on History’s website.
I know your attention span is a little short – like mine. Luckily (pun intended), the video is only one minute long.
See, you learned something new. Blog Xpressions is giving the people what they need – a lesson or two every now and again.
Okay, on to the fun stuff. Now that we know the meaning behind St. Paddy’s day, let’s see how we can get the most out of it. Here are the three ways to celebrate:
Wear Green, Duh! Growing up in school, I remember we used to get pinched (extreme pain) if we didn’t have on green or a green accessory. I am sure you have something in your closet that’s green that you can wear. Get in the spirit. Some people go all out and paint their face green!
Tip: You can use your green beads from this past Mardi-Gras celebration. There is nothing wrong with re-purposing something that you don’t have to buy!
A great place to pick up some greenery or some St. Paddy’s decor, is Dollar Tree! I love this place – they keep up with all the holiday and special days and they have the coolest items for only one buck! Ya’ll know I have to stay on budget! You know I love my coins.
Attend St. Patrick-Themed Parties/Parades. Not only can you rock your green, you can go where others are celebrating, too. Check your local listings for your city/town to see all the “happenings” around town. I live in Houston, and we have plenty of activities going on.
Attend Bars/Restaurants. “Green” is the theme of this post, right? Some restaurants/bars are offering green beer (don’t worry, it’s just food coloring.) Last year, at my job, we had green cookies and green lemonade! No, I didn’t get sick – it was just food coloring.
Well! That’s all I have folks. I hope these ideas can get you in the spirit and help you celebrate! If you have any tips or ideas you want to share, the floor is yours. Tell us whatcha got!
Smooches! (a green heart to represent St. Paddy’s)
