POPCORN & KLEENEX: ‘Purple Rain’ Hits Theaters This Weekend in Honor of Prince

Prince

On April 21, 2016, the world shook when we learned that the legendary Prince Rogers Nelson received his wings. The musical mastermind left the world in shock, sadness, and in heavy mourning.

As many of you know, I normally do not blog about anything dealing with gossip or sadness, but I felt moved enough to write this post as celebrating the life and legacy of Prince, instead of mourning his transition. Although I did not know Prince personally, I felt so well-connected to his music that I feel a sense of loss. Yes, his death was a shock and all so sudden, but the multi-instrumentalist is traveling now – free of any worries, pain and suffering.

In the wake of his “traveling,” Warner Bros. and AMC Theaters teamed up to return ‘Purple Rain’ (originally premiered in 1984) to the big screen. Prince received an Oscar for Best Original Song from this movie – it was his first appearance in a motion picture. The movie will be shown 4/23 – 4/28.

MY SOAPBOX:

As I was scrolling through social media, I saw a lot of comments about:

– “Where is the money from the ticket sales going? They should at least give it to charity.”

– “Why are people trying to capitalize off his death?”

In my opinion, if they did say the money was going to Charity XYZ, would you really know? Can you confirm it? We cannot control people’s actions, but we can control our own. If you choose to pay the money to see it, great! If not, that’s great, too. Your choice.

For example, I hear a lot of chatter about why people choose not to pay their tithes and offerings…it is because they fear the church will not use it in the correct manner. What does that have to do with you? As long as you know you did the right thing, then there is no need to fret. I serve an awesome God and he knows my heart and my intentions.

I believe that re-releasing this movie in theaters will show the new generation about Prince and why we love him so much. Some young people have no idea how much he has contributed to the music world…how his artistic style was worshiped. Prince was also a humanitarian. He donated and sewed into so many people’s lives – privately. He was a giving man and a gifted one.

Did you check out the trailer above? Brings back memories, right? Go ahead and voice your comments, opinions below about the beloved Prince, our superstar.
