[ap_dropcaps style=”ap-normal”]O[/ap_dropcaps]ne of the things Blog Xpressions prides itself on is promoting sisterhood, boss moves and inspiration.
And of the BEST things about us Xpressionists is that we rep our CITY! Rep our people!
I am from the great state of Texas in Houston!
I said all that to say…
Congratulations are in order to Houston’s own, Letoya Luckett.
We all know LeToya from the Grammy-award winning group, Destiny’s Child, but it is no secret that she has truly made a name for herself outside of the group.
I am happy to see a woman winning and doing all the work necessary to live out her dreams and aspirations.
Now, let’s chat a little about LeToya’s latest project, Back 2 Life, released on May 12th!
To promote her album, the singer paid a visit to the Breakfast Club, to chat about her music.
Check out some excerpts:
When asked about her comeback to music (she’s been doing a lot of acting lately), LeToya explains her passion and love for music:
“I just love music. It’s where my heart is. I’m telling you, it helped me heal in relationships, it helps me…I feel music. I feel it.
Especially when I’m listening to a certain record and this person is literally speaking to me in everything that I’m going through, their saying. Or, their saying everything I want to say to this loved one, but I don’t how to put it into words. I love that. And to be on the other side of that and be able to create…I can’t live without that. At all. “
LeToya explains how the 2006 hit single, Torn, from her first album was a high point in her career because so many people resonated with the song.
She talks about how the Back 2 Life album shows progression and growth from Torn.
“I know with “Torn,” I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do in this situation – should I go, is it for me, should I try and work through it?
Back 2 Life is saying, “I’ve done that, and I gotta get back to me, get back to what feeds me, what makes me feel full. If any relationship ain’t inspiring you, or helping you to grow or making you feel fulfilled – run!
We got only got a little bit of time on this earth. You do not know your expiration date. If you’re in something that’s not feeding you, if you’re in something like that every-single-day-pulling-you-down, if their being disrespectful, why are you there? To satisfy what need? Is it a financial need? Is it you don’t want to be alone?
We gotta get out of that space.”
