5 Practical Ways to Re-Claim Your Mornings

Mornings are hard to defeat. Here are a few ways to make your mornings work for you!

The annoying sounds of your alarm clock going off just rattles your nerves.

You wake up in a slight panic, look around to see where you are, and then, it all sinks in.

It’s time to get up for work.

Ugh! Don’t you just hate that feeling? You start thinking of 101 ways to not work and still make money.

Yeah, I am guilty of that, too.

Once you get up, you’re up and at it, rushing to get out the door, drop the kids off and fight the crazy traffic!

Oh, boy!

I have come up with five ways to re-claim your mornings without all the added headaches!

1. Greet Your Higher-Up and Give Praise

During a Sunday sermon, the Pastor of my church made a very good point when he said we complain, we moan and groan, but at least we’re alive.

At least we’re alive to see another day to have a better day, another day to get it right.

Personally speaking, when I awake, I utter these grateful words to my Lord and Savior, “thank you, Lord.” Simple as that.

Believe it or not, addressing your higher-up will help you get out the bed and kick your day into high-gear.

You’re in a new day, sis. The slate has been wiped clean. Give your glory and get ready to start your day!

2. Getcha (get▪your) Mind Right

Your mind is where it all begins. For some of us (like me), we take mental note of what needs to be done for the day while lying in the bed.

And then there are some who jot down in their agenda for the day in their trusty journals. I’m thinking of incorporating that tip into my morning routines.

I know some of us are guilty waking up and then checking our Instagram feeds. That’s a poor way to getcha mind right! Have a better focus on you and doing what it takes to help you conquer the day.

When you see your to-do items listed physically on a sheet of paper, you are more prone to be more productive and get ish done!

3. Breakfast of Champions

My Pastor talked about this as well. We need to learn how to take care of ourselves by eating right and exercising.

Our mornings get too busy that we tend to forget to eat a hearty breakfast, which is the most important meal of the day.

I recently lost about 15lbs (woop, woop!) and I am attributing a bulk of that loss to eating a hearty breakfast. Although I love me a sausage and cheese kolache, it’s not nutritional.

4. Audio & Cardio

My Queens, I have expressed about a million-and-a-half times on how I hate going to the gym, let alone working out.

I’d much rather walk a few miles in the park, then lift weights or get on one of those machines. Ugh!

Exercising may not be our favorite thing to do, but it’s necessary. A proper diet and exercise does the trick every time. No gimmicks.

Once you start moving around in the mornings, do a little cardio. No workout equipment? There are so many great workout DVD’s and YouTube videos available.

Breakfast + exercise will make your day feel whole and you will have plenty of energy.

While you’re doing a little cardio, listen to some good workout music or maybe an inspirational podcast.

5. Private Devotion

Once I apply all the tips mentioned, I leave the house, drop my son off at school and head to work in some nasty traffic!

Of course I’m not happy about the excess construction, road blocks, and mean drivers, but I use that time wisely. I have that precious time for myself.

I listen to the radio to get brushed-up on all the current affairs, or I’ll listen to a podcast.

And then, there are those very sweet moments, where I shut everything off and just have a conversation with God like he’s sitting in the passenger seat.

It takes me about a solid hour to get to work. Imagine God listening to all my babble!

Bonus: Get a Sufficient Amount of Sleep, Sis!

I used to take naps in the car during my lunch break. Not enough of sleep at home!

This is where I need work. I have no problem falling asleep once I’m in bed. The problem is going to bed to fall asleep. Get it? My creative wheels spin in the late night hours.

Being well-rested is so important. You won’t wake up as groggy if you get a sufficient amount of rest.

I hope these tips can help you in some sort of way. I know these changes cannot be made overnight, but at least you’ll know where to start.
